Activities are an ever important
concept of enriching the daily lives of our residents. Colonial
Poplin and Poplin Way offer programs that are coordinated and
run by two certified activities directors (over twenty years
of combined long term and assisted living experience) in conjunction
with resident councils. The comprehensive activity scheduling
focuses both on individual and group dynamics which enhance the
physical, cognitive, social and spiritual ground of each resident.
Sensitivity towards those residents with dementia and Alzheimer's
is also emphasized, in particular, with Colonial Poplin.
Though both facilities sometimes
converge for larger scale entertainment, Colonial Poplin and
Poplin Way do have separate activity schedules. In one day, one
could walk through our facilities and watch residents determined
in completing puzzles in our sitting rooms. During the afternoon
hours, residents of Poplin Way may be partaking in a baking session
in our lovely Country Kitchen as Colonial Poplin residents enjoy
testing their skills at bowling in our dining room. These are
just a few examples of several activities which find their ways
into our residents' lives. Every month offers new programs and
many of our entertainers are welcomed back by our residents.
And with the warmer months upon us, the activities' programs
will be utilizing the four outdoor patios and will be planning
many trips to enjoy the beautiful New England scenery and visit
local shopping areas and restaurants.
For more information on activities,
please e-mail us,
call 603-895-3126, or be sure to inquire about the programs in
a comprehensive tour of our facilities.

When you walk into Colonial Poplin
and Poplin Way, watch your step for the new flash boxer pup,
Tyeson. However, steps need not be so cautious when we have special
guests like the miniature horse Lacy who was brought to us by
Dianne Thomes of Thorough Pet: Pet Assisted Therapy. Here,
resident BettyJo appreciates a face to face experience. |

Poplin Way residents both soak up
the sun and enjoy the shade outside of their gorgeous sunroom.
There are four patios adorned with tables, chairs and umbrellas
around both facilities. Residents and families can enjoy the
nice landscaping and country setting which are trademarks of
Colonial Poplin and Poplin Way. |

Colonial Poplin boasts a very
successful Volunteer Program and one special group that has emerged
is the Mens Group which is overseen by volunteer, Fred Rosenblum.
Five of our military veterans were fortunate to have five current
Naval officers and crewmen from the USS Helena visit for a three
hour meeting which also included the accepted invitation to lunch
here at Poplin.
Stories of past and present were
exchanged from recollections of mine sweeping in World War II
to the current day deployment of nuclear submarines. Everyone
was captivated
and emotional. Special thanks to the USS
Helena (currently docked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for
routine maintenance). |

One never knows what special surprise
may await residents of Colonial Poplin and Poplin Way, or for
that matter, the children of the Ellis School during recess.
From the skies above came a visitor who stopped traffic in front
of 442 Main Street by arriving in a private helicopter. Perhaps
another visit this summer??? |
