Colonial Poplin Brings Video Gaming to Therapy   Special Announcement:    Colonial Poplin Brings Video Gaming to Therapy

~ Colonial Poplin Brings Video Gaming to Therapy ~

On July 7th, Poplin Way resident Marilyn Bartlett donated a Nintendo Wii video gaming system to Colonial Poplin's rehabilitation department. This was enhanced by the Facility purchase of a 52" high definition television to bring forth the best Wii experience possible.

Both the physical and occupational therapy departments have been busy implementing this addition into therapy treatments.

The Nintendo Wii combines video gaming with exercise and physical activity while concentrating on range of motion, balance, weight-bearing/weight-shifting, coordination and arm/ leg movements- all in a fun and exciting way which breaks away from a typical therapy regimen. It is wonderful for the senior population to be learning new tasks and challenging their thought process.

Over 20 residents to date have had profiles created and have used the Wii as part of their comprehensive treatment plan. Residents have enjoyed the ability to bowl and golf after not having been able to do so for over 10 years. Our residents look forward to therapy sessions and often ask when their next "gaming time" will be.

The therapy department will soon establish a consistent group time for patients to participate in Wii training and also for some fun but competitive games. Our therapists will also be training the activities staff so all Colonial Poplin and Poplin Way residents may have the opportunity to participate in the Wii experience. Perhaps bowling leagues and fishing tourneys may be in the future!!! The possibilities are endless!!!
