Hear From Happy Residents, Patients, & Family Members

Jeff, I wanted to thank you and your team for all you did for Annette white and me. I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you took a chance with Annette. In a challenging and uncertain time, you saved me hope. If her care did not start at Colonial Poplin, and I had placed her elsewhere first. I would have always had a lingering sense of guilt that I did not do all I could to give her the most independent lifestyle. But because of you, I have peace of mind. Thank you again for going above and beyond. Even though it did not work as I hoped, it has worked exactly how it needed to for her care.

Blessing

To the Colonial Poplin Administrators and Staff,

I want to express my heartfelt thanks and grateful appreciation to all of you for giving my mother, Lee Bartlett, excellent care and comfort over the last two and a half years. I genuinely believe she had the best care available anywhere. She enjoyed so many of you and appreciated your kind and loving attention and conversations. She never complained about being there, and I think that’s a testament to the dignity, respect, and love you all afford to each resident. You allowed her to be who she was. And you made it possible for her to maintain a sense of self-control and independence, not only by inviting her to go out of the facility for the weekly organized shopping and lunch trips, but also by allowing her an afternoon glass of wine and the incoming food orders from Fremont Pizzeria and and storing her leftovers, which she seemed pretty adept at keeping track of! All of these things helped keep her spirits up and gave her something to look forward to. Thank you for encouraging her as she battled back from the fatigue of chemotherapy. Sean, Bill, and I were heartened to see the improvement and thrilled at being able to take her out of the facility ourselves for appointments, shopping, haircuts, or a bite to eat. I am grateful that we were able to have those good times with her. I can’t fully express how thankful I am to each one of you for choosing the profession you are in. You are each gifted professionals with big hearts and a strong sense of duty. I am particularly grateful for your work throughout the pandemic. I know it hasn’t been easy. We are fortunate you are there, and you continue to provide excellent care. You have no doubt heard this many times, and I hope you don’t tire of it— you are angels and heroes, a blessing to us all. Thank you.

Sincerely,

~Cheryl Spencer

Dear Colonial Poplin Staff,
There are not enough words to express the gratitude I have for the incredible care all of you at Colonial Poplin gave my father, Buzz Grant, while he was there. The dignity, respect, and genuine affection you showed us during his last days really stand out. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for tolerating our endless questions and late-night walks. We needed the assistance you selflessly gave: coffee, food, hugs – and recliners for the overnights – and we didn’t even have to ask. You are all magic. Colonial Poplin is such a special place: caring comes from all of you who work there, and please know the smallest gestures meant so much as we walked this journey; it was so comforting to hear all of you there. Your love for what you do shines through.
With deep and humble gratitude,

~Leah Grant – Buzz Grant’s daughter

Dear Mr. Philbrick,

Because of you, I got to volunteer here. The past 4 years here have been amazing and have helped me through a lot. Before volunteering here, I was highly insecure, but after 4 years here, I’ve learned more about myself and become much more confident. I’ve learned to live life the way I want to, because I want to look back someday and feel happy about every choice I’ve made. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. I hope to continue coming here and helping until the day that I live here. I’ve changed a lot since I started here, and I’m proud of who I've become. I know now what I want to do in life, thanks to many conversations I’ve had with people here. There aren’t enough words in the world that I could use to tell you how much this place means to me. Once again, thank you for everything.

Wishing you the best Valentine’s Day,

~ Deandia Ivory Gates

Dear Jeff, enclosed is a small token of appreciation for your team for the exceptional care & kindness they all gave to Mom as a resident of Poplin Way and, most recently, of Colonial Poplin. She would be pleased to think that they would often enjoy a meal hosted by her and would have witnessed the constant support we all enjoyed from these special people years ago, when considering the best residence for Mom. We were confident your site would be good for her in the long term. Recent events certainly confirmed what a good decision that was. Forever grateful,

~Sue Smulski & Patrick Marcoux

Dear wonderful and fantastic nurses, CNAs & staff.

You all rock! I can’t tell you how much our whole family appreciates the kind and loving care our Mom & stepdad (Don & Gladys) receive from you all. You truly go above and beyond every single day…and I know it’s not the most straightforward task! My bro Eric, sis Lynn & I all call it “herding cattle” when we take them out. Like little kids, we “lose” them momentarily in restaurants, Rite Aid, etc., as they somehow wander (in Don’s case – “shuffle” off!) In particular, Mom has always been so dedicated to church, and it’s crucial to her, and I know how much she misses it. Special thanks for today (Good Friday) when Pastor Shea came from her church in Kingston, and had service – you made sure to give her time after reminding her, to make sure she got to the service. She was on cloud 9 when we talked afterwards! Also, thanks to everyone who allows her to take care of the plants – indoors and out. She takes great care, pride, and comfort in being “out of doors” (as she calls it) in nature and definitely has always had a green thumb – another passion.
I know it’s not an easy job, but God bless you all for doing it so well, with such patience. See you all in May! Thanks again!

~Liz

Thank you for the loving care Buzzy received from all of you and for the support our family received during his last days. Everyone there is compassionate and caring, assuming any role necessary to keep true to your ideals. We are grateful we found Colonial Poplin to care for our beloved husband and father.

To Everyone: Nurses, Aides, Therapists, Management, Kitchen, Office Help, and all who make it work. We want to thank all who were involved in caring for our beloved Norma Lane. Your dedication, devotion, care, and concern were above and beyond any expectations. She passed in a place where she was as comfortable as home. Everyone at Colonial Poplin goes above and beyond what anyone would expect—many thanks to all.
